The purpose of this art project is to represent the health challenges faced by today's minority and ethnic groups, focusing on African-American males. With my art project, I hope to show the struggles of African-American males, including socioeconomic factors and their medical problems, such as prostate cancer, coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and diabetes. For my artwork, I chose to work in scratchboard. In the foreground, two arms, representing fate, are pulling tall stacks of poker chips away from the African-American male on the right. The poker chips represent the male's happiness, wealth, and relationships in life.
