Inspired by the finding that families impacted by congenital hand differences were largely unaffected emotionally, my sculpture garden features an equal number of normal and different hands, representative of a wide range of the differences featured in the study. I used photographs of real hands with congenital conditions as templates, integrated randomly to suggest differences are barely noticeable, especially to those closest to them. The primary colors suggest the passion and emotion associated with congenital diseases, and are the root of all other shades. They are in equal proportion because feelings like happiness, sadness, and anger are often experienced simultaneously.
