When I think of heart failure, I immediately think of the heart surgery and pain that some people go through to stay alive. 500,000 Americans experience heart failure each year and go through heart surgery. A portion of those Americans need heart transplants and some need more than one open heart surgery in their lifetime. My painting portrays the idea that for those Americans, life might be easier if there was a zipper instead of a scar across their hearts. I created a gray background and a hand next to the heart and zipper to give the feeling of pain and sorrow in my expression.
