The Efflux (meaning outflow; extrusion of substance) represents Alexander O'Dell's research, Analysis of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus: Evidence for Circadian Variation? Hydrocephalus can cause brain injury or even death, so I wanted to create a design that would represent the process in which the cerebrospinal fluid in the brain was being drained. The mask was papier-mache, and I showed the brain as realistically as possible by using clay, paint, then glaze, so it could stand out. Coming out of the brain is a tube with a blood-like fluid. This represents the drainage and pain that comes along with hydrocephalus.
